![]() Type: Laptop System: HP product: HP Laptop 17-cn0xxx v: N/A Here is that information that you requested. I rebooted it again and the updates went through and rebooted it again as requested, then opened up Firefox and just let it sit there and came back two hours later and it was frozen again, I'm done with 'Edge and am going to try Ubuntu and see what happens.īut not the information asked for. The 'Edge installer froze about seven times during the install all at various places, no warning nothing odd happening the little spinner just froze and the laptop was unresponsive and had to be powered off and rebooted, I rebooted it and just let it sit there for over an hour with the WiFi connected and the Live Desktop never froze up and acted fine so I don't think the laptop is having any problems itself, so I had it do the install again and it finally did finish installing and then froze up right in the middle of downloading system updates. I'll download that Edge version and re-burn a USB stick and see what happens. This is a bare bones BIOS, there are only a few things that you allowed to enable/disable, TPM (not TCM as I had earlier mentioned) and Secure Boot are two of the things that you can modify, this is not an over clocker's dream machine this is just a set it and leave it office grade laptop to get your work done on. You can view its stats here (as far as I know it has not been modified in any way) this is an HP MODEL 17-cn0053cl ProdID 316H8UA#ABA build date. If that doesn't fix it, post the output from inxi -Fxxxrz. download and boot the edge edition of mint, it has a 5.13 kernel that fixes some issues with new hardware.search your BIOS settings for sata mode and change RST to AHCI.You have told us nothing about your hardware, so guessing: is there something that I am just missing or overlooking that will let either Linux Lite or Linux Mint see the hard drive? working with what I have right now and so that I may actually learn something today. I pulled the drive and looked at it from my PC via gParted and it is the oddest setup that I have ever seen (see my attached screen shot), I'm kind of on the fence about deleting all the partitions and starting over with a Linux partition because if something just doesn't go right I'd like to be able to give it back to them as an "As it was" still working Windows 10 system, so I'm considering ordering a blank hard drive and just going that route. The last laptop that I converted from Windows to Linux for this person I just switched it from UEFI to Legacy Mode in the BIOS and everything went fine, this laptop only has UEFI as an option I was however able to turn off TCM and Secure Boot to just be able to get this far (using the EUFI compatibility install option), with Secure Boot on I get a security error warning and everything stops, the owner doesn't care about Windows and wants the drive wiped and Linux put on to replace it, but. ![]() ![]() This started with actually trying to install "Linux Lite 5.6" which looks similar during the install to Linux Mint (up to a point) then it gets hung at "rc.local : A connection to the bus can't be made." just to rule out a hardware problem I burned another USB drive with "Linux Mint 20.2" on it, it gets all the way to the live desktop but then if I tell it to do the install all it can do is find the USB drive and the hard drive is not there, I checked in gParted and the hard drive is not there either.
